Amber Märzen Style Lager

BACKSTORY

Märzen is a lager that originated in Bavaria and was the beer style traditionally served at the Munich Oktoberfest until about 1953. Before the age of refrigeration, it was nearly impossible to brew beer in the summer due to the hot weather. Brewing ended with the coming of spring, and began again in the fall. Thus, most were brewed in March (Märzen). These beers were kept in cold storage through the spring and summer months, or brewed at a higher gravity, so they'd last longer. Richbrau Festbier is full-bodied, rich, and toasty, with a moderately high alcohol content at 6.5% abv. Like other dark lagers, the aroma is driven by malt and may just conjure visions of a cool fall breeze in the old country. Prost!
